Child Falls Overboard on Disney Cruise, Father Jumps In to Save Her

A scary moment turned into a miracle aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship on June 29.

A young girl reportedly fell overboard while the Disney Dream was sailing back to Fort Lauderdale after a four-night trip to the Bahamas. Without hesitation, her father jumped into the ocean to save her.

Rapid Response from Crew

Passengers said the ship was cruising between the Bahamas and Florida when the emergency happened. Suddenly, an alert went out over the ship’s intercom:
“Mr. M.O.B.” — a code that means “man overboard.”

The Disney Dream’s crew moved fast:

1. They threw life preservers into the water.

2. They launched a rescue boat in just minutes.

3.    Both the child and her father were pulled back to safety.

Disney Cruise Line confirmed the rescue in a statement to USA TODAY:

“The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water. We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.”

What Passengers Saw

Many guests shared the moment on social media.
One passenger, Kevin Furuta, wrote on Facebook:

“A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her. Thankfully the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!”

The 4th deck of the Disney Dream has a walking track and is surrounded by plexiglass barriers. It’s still unclear how the child fell.

Safety Measures in Place

Disney Cruise Line, like other major cruise companies, uses high-tech systems to detect when someone falls overboard. These systems help the crew respond fast during emergencies.

This event showed how well those safety protocols worked.
